I haven’t written much about the candy of Argentina yet. Candy bars, ice cream, and dulce de leche are all very popular here (mmm!) but probably the most common and distinctively Argentinean sweet is the alfajor. Alfajores are usually pretty simply constructed - a few cookies layered together with fillings of dulce de leche, jam, chocolate, peanut butter, etc. Often dipped in white or dark chocolate, sometimes covered in coconut shavings or powdered sugar, I find these at gas stations and sandwich shops everywhere. The one in the picture had two layers, one of chocolate and one of peanut butter. Yum, just the energy I needed!
I noticed people had a lot of questions about my TV interview, so I’ll try to fill in some more details. I think being on a bicycle, I tend to get noticed a bit more than most people, so when I was waiting for in my meal in the main restaurant in the town square, a few men came up to me and asked me something in Spanish.
Unfortunately, I didn’t understand what they were asking… something about the TV? They wanted to sit and watch TV? They needed my chair for TV? Anyway, obviously, they wanted me to be on TV, but because I took a little while to figure that out they decided they needed an interpreter to interview me (the role filled by the woman in the right-hand side of the picture of me being interviewed.) As it turned out, I understood most of the questions myself, so I’m not 100% sure I needed an interviewer, but I suppose it didn’t hurt!
A lot of what was asked was pretty typical - Do I like General Alvear, where the people friendly, did I feel safe, how long was I traveling for, etc etc. They also asked what I thought of the men of General Alvear (Muy guapo, of course!) and whether I wanted to join them later for dancing, which I thought was funny.
So, sadly, I can’t point to being interviewed in Spanish as proof of my mastery of the language, but I did have a nice time and got some fun pictures out of it!
I’m in Necochea now with Katie, who reads my blog and offered to show me around the city - a job she and her fiance, Daniel, have done with aplomb! She has a blog of her own which is a great read on expat life, if you’d like to learn a little more about this corner of Argentina.

That is the best thing I have ever seen in my life. I am so moving to Argentina just for those.
Chocolate and peanut butter is my favorite combination in the entire world. XD
Malena loves candy. And travel. And both together. And thus, this site was born.
